2018-2019 Audition Notices:
Auditions for the WORLD PREMIERE of BENTLEY, a new comedy by Michael Wilhelm
Tuesday, May 15, 2018
First Missionary Church
701 W Rudisill Blvd
Synopsis: A reality TV family’s ratings stunt results in employing a homeless man as their new butler! (If that sounds vaguely like the plot of a famous 1930s screwball comedy…it is.) Bentley begins to quietly show the Carvers that there is more to life than facelifts, blog trolling, shoe-buying and gossip. But what secrets is our man Bentley hiding behind his tuxedo? And what will he discover about himself in the process? Rated G, but recommended for middle school and up.
Roles to be cast: 6 M, 4 F
BENTLEY, enigmatic male 35-50 years old
PAM CARVER, 20-something, sweet but spoiled, emotional
TASHA CARVER, late 20s, arrogant and spoiled, cynical but hiding deep pain
SIMON CARVER, early 20s, techno whiz with no sense of purpose, shallow because no one has challenged him to anything deeper
ELLEN CARVER (Pam and Tasha’s mother), elegant 50-ish matron, also living a life w/o meaning and a lackluster marriage
DRAKE CARVER (Ellen’s husband, Pam’s father), a self-made man in his 50s who has run into terrible trouble and has nowhere to turn; wants to do the right thing but is terrified
HERSCHEL, TV producers who is all about the money and the ratings, period.
MARGE, the Carvers’ cook/housekeeper who has seen it all, and knows how to keep her mouth shut
LT. BROOKS, a police officer
CAMERA MAN, who seems to be everywhere…
