Auditions: The Princess and the Goblin

Separate audition dates for actors and dancers
afO will hold auditions for actors and dancers needed for their season closer, The Princess and the Goblin, based on the classic children’s fantasy novel by George MacDonald. Rehearsals will begin March 7th, and continue on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 10:00 PM for actors. Dance rehearsals TBD. Performances are April 22-24 and April 28 through May 1, 2022 in the PPG ArtsLab.

Five female speaking roles:
THE MYSTERIOUS LADY, ageless, calls herself Irene’s Great-Great Grandmother
IRENE, the princess, who should look pre-adolescent (a dancing and speaking role)
LOOTIE, Irene’s nurse, fearful and temperamental (a comedic role)
CURDIE’S MOTHER, a miner’s wife, who gives wise advice
THE GOBLIN QUEEN, who wears stone shoes and is very frightening (a comedic role)
Four male speaking roles:
CURDIE, the brave miner, who should appear to be a young teen–needs to sing (a heroic role)
SIR WALTER, the elderly knight who looks after Irene–PRECAST
GOBLIN KING, who blusters but is afraid of his wife–PRECAST
GOBLIN PRINCE, in the shadow of his parents (a comedic role)
An assortment of others:
GOBLINS & CREATURES, all sizes, who dance (a modern/hip-hop style), non-speaking
DOORS/WALLS, three or four adult-size individuals who act as living puppets, non-speaking
KNIGHTS, two or three adult men, non-speaking roles, who fight the goblins in the finale
